Does the evil eye really exist? My personal experience

The evil eye

As an Athenian who left Athens to live in the greek countryside I found some of the local habits to be folklore. I treated the agricultural and livestock work, the fairs, the many old people as icons of the countryside as any Athenian would do.

One of these was my mother-in-law's faith in the evil eye. If she was seeing me to be somehow restless, she would ask me cast off the evil eye, but I thought at the time that it was a prejudice.

Until an event forced me to change my mind. So at my work during a collaboration for a few seconds with a colleague, while I was in a good mood and without having anything before, I suddenly felt very sick and felt like vomiting. I understood that it was an evil eye and for the first time I called my mother-in-law to cast it off.

But something similar happened after a few years. My supervisor considered I was leaving the office unnecessarily and one day she secretly watched my movements. She reprimanded me and I immediately felt suddenly unwell to the point of not being able to stand on my feet, I lost my colour and for the rest of the day I monitored my blood pressure with the sphygmomanometer. The evil eye apparently came from spying me.

My mother-in-law whispers a wish that a nun has written for her, but she must not reveal it because it will not be effective anymore. My grandmother was also casting it off with the candlestick, I could see her bent over it, crossing it and whispering things I didn't understand.

Now I am convinced that evil eye exists and there are times when I call my mother-in-law to cast it off. When I have a lot of evil eye, she tells me "you had such an eye that I cried".

People sometimes look at you with malice or jealousy for vile things, for something you have while they lack. Unfortunately when your life is going well this causes envy, you may get married, bring children to life or buy a better car, there will always be people who look down on you.

I think people who know you might look down on you because they know personal things about your life and in their little minds they will find some reason to be jealous
