The volcanic Mavra Volia beach in Chios
Foki beach
A beach of incomparable beauty with a volcanic origin is certainly not something you expect to encounter in Chios, but it is the remnant of the extinct Psaronas volcano. This geological phenomenon has made Mavra Volia the most famous beach of the island.
It is a surprise for those looking for a unique experience on this beautiful island. The black pebbles glisten in the sunlight inviting guests to lie down on them to experience ultimate relaxation.

It is divided into two large beaches. The first one in the fishing village Emporios is called Mavros Gialos (black beach), it has tamarind trees that offer their shade as well as a canteen and a shower. A paved path leads to the second and more secluded beach, Foki which is flanked by impressive overhanging cliffs creating a natural shade when the sun goes down. They are not organized so you should bring everything you need with you.
