For swimming in Limanakia, the hangout for the youth in coastal Athens
For several years, summer for me meant going swimming in Limanakia, one of the absolute hangouts of the youth in coastal Athens. It is not a beach but a cove with crystal clear waters and a rocky shore where you can lie on the rocks and dive.
I was always hesitant to dive, I thought I would hit on the rocks but the waters are so cool and in beautiful colours that they made up for it. In the past there was also a diving board for comfortable and fun diving but now it doesn't exist anymore.
It is not possible for the elderly or children to even to get there, for obvious reasons as you can see, and that is why you will only see young people.
The hotels I recommend in Vouliagmeni:
- (€€€) Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso (⭐ 8,3)
- (€€€) Athenian Riviera Hotel & Suites (⭐ 8,6)
- (€€€) The Roc Club (⭐ 8,7)

There is also a small canteen for coffee and soft drinks and a wooden platform. You go down through a trail. The more familiar ones also go to swim at the nearby smaller limanaki which is somewhat more passable than the big one.
It is located after the Vouliagmeni lake under the Poseidonos avenue. There is also a parking lot, but if you go on a weekend I don't think you will find a place easily, you may have to park further away. The buses that pass there are 122 Stathmos Argyroupolis - Saronida, 122Θ Stathmos Argyroupolis - Varkiza, 115 Glyfada - Vouliagmeni - Kitsi and 117 Glyfada - Vouliagmeni - Vari.
Limanakia is also known for a mysterious geological formation located at the bottom of the sea called the Devil's Well. It is a well, in other words a big hole, which reaches 30 meters deep and on its wall is the entrance to a cave. The current that sucks in indicates that the cave communicates with the surface but it is unknown where, it is possible that it exits to Vouliagmeni lake but it is not possible to prove it. Railings have been placed at the entrance of the cave so that divers are not tempted to enter and be lost forever.
Below is a map with the location.
