For a seaside walk in Nea Kios, Argolida
"For fish in Nea Kios" say the locals and they go there to buy it fresh as the boats bring it from the Argolic gulf. The village is better known because it was founded by refugees from Kios in the Sea of Marmara in Asia Minor, the area was given to them because it was a swamp and there were no properties. The stream Inachos and the river Erasinos flow there.
What it is well-known for is the pleasant walk by the sea which, as you can see in the photos, is also suitable for children's activities such as cycling and skating. In the harbour there are also touches with large olive pots.
For food the most well-known are the fish taverns Tsakiris (where the military bridge is located) and Psaropoula of Valsamis. There are also shops for ice cream, crepes, waffles, pizza, etc.
It is located at a distance of 7 km from Nafplio. The locals prefer it for quiet evenings especially when Nafplio in July and August is pretty crowded.
The beaches of Nea Kios are very shallow and not frequented by people for swimming except for the tenants of the holiday homes in the area. On the side towards Nafplion there is sand which is said to heal rheumatism so the bathers there cover their bodies with sand. A local woman had told me that these treatments were practiced by the German soldiers during the Occupation.
For accommodation there are two hotels, Ignatia on the sea and Argo in the central square.
If you are in Nea Kios in August it is worth attending Kiana festival with dances and music from Asia Minor.
